J.M. Tjibaou Cultural Center
Noumea
The project designed by Renzo Piano aims to showcase the talent of the Kanak people in construction and the use of modern materials such as glass, aluminum, steel, and modern lighting technologies, combined with more traditional wood and stone.
The Center consists of a collection of "cases," small pavilions, and landscaped areas.
It is located on a peninsula surrounded by water on three sides.
The buildings feature a highly efficient passive ventilation system that eliminates the need for mechanical air conditioning.
